Some SEO Advice For Bill Gates
What do you get for Bill Gates, the richest person in the world? How about a little free SEO advice for his new blog? It could use some.
Bill, I went looking for your blog today on Google. Sorry, like many people, I have a habit of using that search engine first. What did I find for bill gates blog?
One of the more interesting posts in the SEO space for a long long time. All the points in this post are excellent. However, does somebody like Bill Gates need SEO? Especially for his personal blog which is totally non-commercial in nature. I don’t do any SEO on my personal blog. And I don’t see why anybody would want to, even if you are an SEO expert, I’m sure you have better things to do.
SEO Tips for the New Year
As the New Year has come, what better way to celebrate than with some Search Engine Optimizing Tips:
1) If you use JavaScript drop down menus or image links, be sure to place text links on the page for the search engine spiders to follow.? Placing them in the footer is fine. Also, make sure these pages are in your XML sitemap as well to promote spidering.
2) Don’t be fooled by the “Content is King” saying. Content matters little if there is not a compelling offer to go along with it. You must have good MARKETABLE content if you are going to be successful online. Ask for the order. Your job online is not just to educate the public on the best option for them, it is also to sell. That is how you make your living and don’t ever forget it.
Jerry West is definitely an SEO expert and the advice he gives in the above post is pure gold.
Local Businesses Need Local SEO Focus
While SEO can benefit all websites, the world-wide approach won’t work for all businesses. A garden centre, for example, is unlikely to want to attract traffic from another county, much less than another country. Local businesses require a local search engine optimisation focus.
The two approaches are very different, but use similar techniques. The main difference lies in the focus of your SEO campaign. While an across-the-board SEO strategy will necessarily have its own geographical focus, local search involves different search techniques to general search. It has its own limitations, but it has its own advantages as well. There are also broad areas of cross-over.
Local SEO is definitely the way to go for local businesses. Consult your local SEO expert for more ![]()
Can you guarantee SEO results?
However, as with most things that sound too good to be true, it is. Whenever the word ‘guarantee’ is used in relation to SEO services you should stay well away. Search engine rankings can never be guaranteed, and no ethical SEO company would ever offer guaranteed search engine rankings.
Totally agree. SEO can’t be guaranteed. But sometimes it’s difficult because many potential clients have been conditioned by some SEO expert that results can be guaranteed. It’s difficult to compete against that especially if you are new.
How to Redirect a Domain for Better SEO: Permanent Redirect is Beneficial for Search Engine Optimization
One aspect of moving from one domain to another is transferring website traffic from the old domain to the new one. Many webmasters implement a redirect from the homepage, which is an easy way to transfer traffic. However, Google recommends a permanent redirect, which is labeled a 301 redirection.
Sometimes I am quite shocked that some who claim to do SEO or be an SEO expert does not know how to configure 301 redirects properly. I agree that sometimes this may be a pain on Windows servers, but 301 redirects is something that should not be ignored for great usability as well as for SEO purposes.
Google Doesn’t Want Searchers To Find SEOs & Web Designers
If you go to Google.com and type “hamburgers,” “shoes,” “candy,” “grills,” “beer,” and hundreds of other terms of ambiguous local intent, Google will almost always show you local results on a map that’s tied to your IP address.
But type in “seo,” “seo company,” “web design company” and several terms related to these two types of businesses — heck, go ahead and specifically add in a city name like “seattle” or “houston” or wherever, and even include the state abbreviation like “wa” or “tx” — and Google will almost never show you local results on a map.
I’ve noticed this for SEO queries eg. SEO expert as well.
Seems that the local results are only limited to the top 3 or don’t show up at all.
I don’t see this to be a big issue since I believe the huge majority of small businesses that require SEO and web optimization services don’t search for such services online so much. I believe that the reason for this is that they don’t know that their website’s visibility can be enhanced by SEO.
How the SEO industry will grow in 2010 | Just Search | Search Engine Optimisation & Internet Marketing Journal
The SEO industry is almost certain to grow stronger in 2010. With the full launch of Bing rivalling Google for the users who browse the internet, there is bound to be a lot of focus on optimising for Bing in a similar way to how we treat Google now. One of the main factors towards Bing being successful is that all the new Windows 7-based computers have Bing set as the default search engine on the default browser, Internet Explorer 8. For those of us in the web development industry, this isn’t good news. Personally, I wish everyone would use Mozilla Firefox to browse the internet. For development purposes it has so many more features, is very customisable and doesn’t have as many bugs as IE.
A fresh perspective on the SEO for 2010. Too many are spelling doom and gloom but I would definitely say this is an exciting time for any SEO consultant indeed.
Are You Flushing Your SEO Down The Drain? | Get Elastic
It breaks my heart when I see URLs with session IDs crawled and indexed by search engines and returned in search results.
Interesting rant about sessions IDs.
There is little reason to use session IDs when a site can be designed around cookies. Unfortunately, there are some who won’t ever listen…frustrating for any SEO expert.
Is SEO Dead? 1997 Prediction, Meet 2009 Reality
But I think if SEO hasn’t died in the 12 years since it was first predicted, it isn’t going away any time soon.SEO is more than ranking web pages.
SEO is not about tricking search engines.
SEO is not a complete online marketing plan, but…
SEO — and search marketing in general — isn’t something a smart marketer should ignore or just leave to chance.
If you’re a small business and don’t think search is worthwhile, I’d suggest reading Searching For Small Businesses, Coming Up Frustrated, a post from me about trying to find businesses like you and having huge problems.
Interesting article that runs contrary to the hype that SEO is going away. Again. SEO isn’t going away. It’s just changing and should only form part of your online marketing strategy (but an important part). Any SEO consultant worth his salt would tell you the same thing.
SEO Expert Swears In Court That Google Uses Meta Keywords Tag
I was pointed to a filed affidavit (PDF) between Jenzabar & Robert Maginn as the plaintiffs versus Long Bow Group as the defendants. In short, it seems like the plaintiff is suing the defendants over trademark infringement within a site’s keyword meta tags.
Very interesting. Legalities notwithstanding, wouldn’t it make better sense to embark on a good SEO campaign to outrank them rather than just sue them?
