Google Local Results Served Inline In Google Search Singapore

Many of you should have noticed that for certain local searches on google.com.sg, a Google local business listing together with a map is returned (refer to above).
What does this mean for local SEO and search marketing? I’ve been expecting this change for quite some time already as Google local result have been served in-line on Google.com (USA) for quite some time now. It’s just that it has now come to Singapore. Maybe this has to do with the recent announcement that Google street view is going to be rolled out in the country.
The possible implications is that the organic results have now been pushed lower down the fold and you’ll need to rank higher in order to capture the attention of any searchers. This has become increasingly difficult and you’ll want to make sure you have a long term and comprehensive online marketing plan. A good SEO consultant should be able to help you.
If you are a local business, it’s also imperative you register for a Google local business listing (it’s free) and fill up the profile as comprehensively as possible. This is important for any local business, but for businesses with location based services and goods (e.g. coffee shops and restaurants), you want to make sure you have a listing on Google maps. Many mobile devices (e.g. iPhones and Android phones) now support searching of local Google maps results and you’ll want to make sure your business is shown on the map when a mobile search is done.
As Google starts to serve more non-webpage search results (they call it “universal search”), it has become increasingly important to keep up with the changes and adapt accordingly. You can either do this yourself, or hire a competent SEO firm to do it for you. Whatever the case, if you’re not up to date, your competitors probably will be.
