Dont overlook Technical SEO requirements. Often most SEO overlook http headers and even robots.txt files.

Don't you mean HTML headers? HTTP headers are returned by the web server and it's arguable whether they can be optimized for SEO purposes. I would think enabling compression is one of the few HTTP enhancements that can be done but not much more.

HTTP Headers? Really? Come on, what about 301, 302, 404 & ect. They all count when it comes to getting your pages indexed properly.

    Joe,

I welcome discussion on this blog but I would appreciate it you were more courteous when leaving your comment. Thank you.

I'm well aware of the HTTP response codes and I do make full use of them in my line of work. What I meant to say is that there is no way to “optimize” them. Rather, we should ensure that 404s are handled appropriately and that we redirect the pages which are no longer relevant or do not exist using the appropriate 301 or 302 redirects. I don't view this as an optimization but just ensuring that users have a good experience on the site.
